Isn’t it amazing how much in the way of furniture design would look ridiculous in most settings, never mind its actual ability to function properly.

Take the ‘Space Probe Bed’ which doubles up as a comfy sofa. It looks rather like a giants helmet with cushions spilling out of it. Complete with miniature food and drink holders above each armrest, there is an air of the retro ‘Jestons’ about it. Whilst not necessarily looking that luxurious, the cheap plasticky look works. Closing the top shell down would be fun, although I can see one’s legs getting caught pretty rapidly. So the question suddenly erupts, would you put it?

Next we move on to the ‘Stuffed Animal Sofas’. This is probably every young kids dream. Festooned in a huge number of cute and furry teddy bears, this sofa looks like every kids teddy pile, just far larger and more practical.  Unless you house is a tip, I’d stay clear of this particular piece of furniture.

How about the ‘Cactus Sofa’. Who ever thought this would be a great idea certainly didn’t plan on using it. Made from what looks like the large leaves of an old established cactus plant, this 2-3 seater sofa looks as dangerous as it probably feels.

From looking at the ‘Lego Sofa’, it is immediately obvious again that practicality was chucked straight out of the window. Giant-size Lego blocks were specially created, presumably copying the exact dimensions of the world famous bricks themselves, and stuck together in the shape of a large 3 person sofa.

Lastly, behold the ‘Nest Sofa’. This ingeniously designed sofa literally resembles a giant birds nest, complete with three large egg-styled cushions to lean against. Unlike real birds nests, the designer here went for a more softer material with which to construct the basket section, although quite what fills the cushions is anybodies idea.

There you go, a weird and very wonderful selection of sofa designs, some of which are sure to remain etched on your mind for a little time at least. How many of these one-offs actually made the production line is another story. Some things are best kept to themselves eh!
